Zero Latency
In computing, "zero latency" is a theoretical ideal where data transmission, processing, and response happen instantaneously, with no delay between a request and its fulfillment. True zero latency is impossible due to the physical limitations of the speed of light, but the term is used to describe systems that minimize delays to a degree that is imperceptible to the human senses.
How zero latency works: Instead of waiting for batches of data to be collected and processed, zero-latency systems process data as soon as it arrives. Several technologies and strategies are used to approach this goal:
Edge computing: Moves data processing closer to the data source, which reduces the time it takes for information to travel to and from centralized systems.
Optimized routing: Network traffic is sent along the most direct paths with the fewest "hops" or stops, leading to faster data transmission.
Optimized hardware and software: Devices and applications are specifically designed to minimize processing delays, prioritizing time-sensitive data.
Parallel processing: Workloads are distributed across multiple processors to speed up the rate at which data is processed.
