A VPN, or Virtual Private Network, is a service that creates a secure, encrypted connection over a public network like the internet. It works by routing your internet traffic through a remote server, which masks your IP address and encrypts your data. This protects your online activity from being tracked by third parties like your internet service provider (ISP), making it more private and secure, especially on public Wi-Fi.

How it works

Tunneling: A VPN establishes a secure "tunnel" between your device and the VPN server. Your internet traffic travels through this tunnel, making it invisible to others on the same public network.

Encryption: All the data that passes through the VPN is encrypted, meaning it's scrambled into "gibberish" that can only be decoded with a key. Since only your device and the VPN server have the key, your data is protected from being stolen or read by third parties.

IP address masking: The VPN server replaces your real IP address with its own. This hides your identity and location, making it difficult for websites and advertisers to track your browsing habits.
