Standalone
A standalone computer is a device that operates independently, without a network connection or reliance on other computers. It can perform its intended functions on its own, though it may sometimes be connected to peripherals like a printer or scanner. Examples include a desktop computer used for individual tasks like word processing or a specialized device like a basic calculator or medical device that doesn't need constant connectivity.
Independent operation: A standalone computer can function without being linked to a local area network (LAN) or wide area network (WAN).
Self-contained function: It is capable of performing its core tasks on its own, such as processing information, running applications, and storing data.
Peripherals: It can still be connected to other devices, but these are considered peripherals and are not essential for its general operation.
Examples: An individual desktop or laptop used for personal work. Software that can be installed and run without being part of a larger system or bundle. Specialized devices like a standalone fax machine or a medical device that provides readings without an internet connection.
