RAM
RAM, or Random Access Memory, is a computer's short-term, temporary storage for data that is currently in use. It acts as a "workbench" for your processor, allowing it to quickly access and process information for active applications, making multitasking and overall performance much faster. RAM is volatile, meaning its contents are lost when the computer is turned off, unlike a hard drive or SSD which provides long-term storage.
Key functions of RAM:
Temporary storage: It holds the data for applications and files that are currently running.
Performance boost: By storing frequently used data, RAM allows the CPU to access it much faster than it could from a long-term storage drive, significantly improving speed and efficiency.
Multitasking: The more RAM a computer has, the more applications and tasks it can handle simultaneously without slowing down.
