Registry
A computer "registry" is a central, hierarchical database in Windows that stores configuration settings for the operating system, hardware, and applications. It acts as a central memory for the system, holding information like user preferences, installed software details, and hardware configurations. You can also access it via a specific tool, but direct editing is generally not recommended as it can cause system instability.
What the registry contains
User and system settings: Information for user profiles, system policies, and how the operating system works.
Hardware information: Details about installed hardware and how it's configured, including device drivers and ports.
Application data: Settings for installed programs, such as their location, version, and associated file types.
Interface settings: Information for user interface elements like property sheet settings for folders and icons.
