Metadata
Metadata is "data about data", providing descriptive and contextual information about an information resource. This includes details like its creation date, author, file type, and usage rights, which make it easier to find, use, manage, and understand the data it describes. Examples include the tags on an image file (like resolution and color depth) or the sender, receiver, and timestamp of an email.
What it is
Descriptive information: Metadata explains what a piece of data is about, such as a file's title, author, or a summary.
Structural information: It indicates how data is organized and related to other data, like the order of pages in a book or how different files connect.
Administrative information: This is technical or management data, including when the file was created, its file type, and who has permission to access it.
