LED
In computers, LED stands for light-emitting diode, a semiconductor device that emits light when an electric current passes through it. LEDs are used in various computer components, from status indicator lights on cases and mice to the backlight for LCD displays, and they can be made very small to create dense arrays for full-color screens.
Uses in computers
Displays: LEDs are used in two primary ways in displays:
Backlighting: They provide the light source for an LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) screen. Many monitors and TVs are called "LED TVs" because they use an LED backlight, even though the display technology itself is still LCD.
Direct-view displays: Some screens are made of millions of tiny LEDs that create the image directly, like on large outdoor video walls or some very high-end televisions.
Indicator lights: A small, simple LED on the computer case or peripherals can indicate power status or activity, such as when the hard drive is reading or writing data.
Peripherals: They are used in devices like optical mice for tracking movement on a surface and for status indicators on wireless mice.
