A keystroke is the action of pressing or releasing a key on a keyboard, which sends a signal to a computer to perform an action or input a character. This fundamental user interaction can range from typing letters and numbers to using modifier keys like "Shift" or "Ctrl" to perform complex commands, or pressing function keys (F1-F12). Each individual keystroke is a single, distinct event that a computer interprets to create output.

Types of keystrokes

Click keystrokes: Pressing a single key to type a letter, number, or symbol.

Modifier keystrokes: Combinations of keys pressed together, such as Shift + A to get an uppercase 'A', or Ctrl + C to copy.

Function keystrokes: Using function keys (F1-F12) to trigger specific functions or commands within a software application.
