Keypad
A keypad is a block of buttons used as an input device for computers and other electronic machines. It is similar to a keyboard but typically smaller, more compact, and contains a limited number of keys.
Common keypad types
Numeric keypad: This is the most common type of keypad found on the right side of a standard, full-sized computer keyboard. It features a calculator-style layout of digits (0–9) and mathematical operators, which is useful for quickly entering numerical data into applications like spreadsheets.
External keypad: For laptops or smaller keyboards that lack an integrated number pad, a separate external keypad can be connected via USB or Bluetooth. This provides the same functionality as a standard numeric keypad.
Gaming keypad: A smaller, specialized input device for gaming that allows for custom button mapping. This gives gamers a compact and ergonomic way to control games with a selection of programmable keys.
Virtual keypad: On touch-screen devices like smartphones and tablets, a virtual keypad appears on the screen to allow for numerical input.
Security keypad: Many devices and systems use a keypad to enter a PIN or code for security. Examples include ATMs, security systems, digital door locks, and safes.
