Input is any data or instructions sent to a computer for processing. It can be anything from a command typed on a keyboard, a mouse click, or a voice command, to images, audio, or data from another device. Devices that send information to a computer are called input devices, while the information sent is the input.

Examples of input

Manual input: A person typing on a keyboard, clicking a mouse, or touching a touchscreen.

Automated input: A digital camera sending photos, a scanner processing a document, or a program receiving data from another device.

Other sources: Voice commands, media discs, and data received from the internet, such as emails or downloaded files.
