"Drag" is a computer term that refers to the action of using a mouse or touchpad to move an item, like a file, icon, or text, to a new location on the screen. It involves clicking and holding the button on the item, moving it to a new spot, and then releasing the button to "drop" it. This "drag and drop" action is a common feature in graphical user interfaces (GUIs) used for tasks such as organizing files, rearranging icons, and moving text between applications.

How it works

Click and hold: Place the cursor over the item you want to move, then click and hold the left mouse button (or tap and hold on a touchscreen).

Drag: While still holding the button, move the mouse or your finger to the new desired location on the screen. You can see the item moving with your cursor.

Drop: Release the mouse button to drop the item into its new position.

Common uses: Moving files from one folder to another. Deleting files by dragging an icon to the trash or recycle bin. Rearranging app icons on a smartphone's home screen. Moving and rearranging text within a document. Resizing or moving windows on a desktop.
